A Balanced Mindset for Performance

December 25, 2010 By Patrick Cohn

Two types of mindsets are important for your athletes’ success. The practice mindset is characterized by high dedication, unwavering motivation, commitment to goals in sport, analytical behavior, improve technique, strive for perfection, the need to look good, and focus on future improvement.

On the other hand, the performance mindset is characterized by complete confidence in what your athletes trained, an automatic or reactive mindset, an accepting and non-judgmental mindset, patience, the ability to win ugly or just get the job done without regard to how you get it done, and the mindset to rely on instincts or what you have practiced.

Your athletes must balance the practice and performance mindsets if they want to achieve their athletic potential. They must train hard to improve and rely on their training when they compete.

Check out the Mental Game Coaching Professional course for more information on coaching the mental game.
