Encouraging Athletes to Trust

November 20, 2010 By Patrick Cohn

Sports parents should help their athletes embrace a trusting mindset for competition. To help you encourage athletes to trust, use these tips:

1. Leaving practice on the practice field, court, or course. Help young athlete become performers in competition and trust what they have practiced.

2. Helping them switch into an athletes, “let it happen” mindset in competition. Tell them to be more reactive and simple. See the ball and hit it.

3. Helping them perform in the present and get the job done without worrying about how to get the job done. They should avoid analyzing their form of technique in competition. Instead athletes need to accept that they can’t perform perfectly without mistakes.
