Mental Game Tips for Athletes and Coaches

Developing Team Leaders

May 11, 2011 By Patrick Cohn

Coaches should choose responsible and respected team leaders as their captains. Your team captains have a huge impact on your team’s success. It is much easier to help athletes further develop their leadership skills than to start from scratch.

Look for leaders when structuring your team such as athletes who were team captains at other levels, or are involved with student council. After you select your captains, meet with them to discuss exactly what you expect from team. Let them know their responsibilities and how you expect them to conduct themselves.
