Enhancing Team Trust

April 11, 2011 By Patrick Cohn

To enhance your athletes’ ability to play freely and as a unit you must instill trust among the team. Start by helping everyone identify their specific role on the team, and relate how all roles are important to the team success.

In a team meeting, ask the group to share their concerns for teamwork and other issues around trust. Ask each athlete what he or she needs to trust in teammates. Discuss these with the group. Finally, give your athletes specific goals to help them display the positive teamwork behaviors that will lead to greater teamwork and trust.

Check out the Mental Game Coaching Professional course for more information on coaching the mental game.
