Coping with Frustration After Mistakes

April 7, 2011 By Patrick Cohn

More than 40% of sports parents and coaches say that their kids become easily frustrated or angry after making mistakes. As a sports parent you must attempt to help them better cope with disappointment and setbacks. Start by explaining to your young athletes that mistakes and setback a just a part of sports.

Also help your athletes develop coping strategies to deal with frustration. This is one of the most important tasks for sports parents because athletes who cannot manage their frustration are more likely to drop out because they aren’t having fun. Coping strategies will help you kids stay in sports longer and make their sports experience more enjoyable.

Help sports kids improve composure. Visit The Composed Sports Kid to find out how.
