Your Mental Attitude is a Choice

December 16, 2010 By Patrick Cohn

According to Pat Summit, head coach of women’s basketball at University of Tennessee, “Attitude is a choice. What you think you can do, whether positive or negative, confident or scared, will most likely happen.” Choosing to have a positive mindset is critical for successful performance in any sport.

I tell my students to embrace a success-driven mindset when performing their sport. A success-driven mindset focuses on what you need to accomplish for a successful performance. This mindset also helps you have a present focus, in the moment, in which you attend to the performance cues that help you execute successfully.
