Don’t Forget About Practice Goals

February 21, 2011 By Patrick Cohn

Setting goals are an important part of structuring practice and improving the quality of your performance. You wan to have clear goals about what you want to achieve in sport. However, when it comes to training and practice sessions, many athletes do not have well defined goals and this can help you get the most out of practice.

First, set goals to help you focus on the process and successful execution. I call these mini goals or process goals. Process goals help you improve your focus on the relevant performance cues needed for success. During practice, align your mindset to focus on process goals so you can transfer this mindset to competition.
