Nobody Plays Perfect, Not Even Perectionists

November 22, 2010 By Patrick Cohn

Athletes who go into an event or tournament without any expectations are more likely to perform with confidence. However it may be difficult for athletes to avoid setting high expectations throughout the tournament when they are winning and playing well. One athlete states, “I went into a match without any expectations. After the first few games I was winning and playing perfectly, but, then I started to miss shots and became frustrated. I guess I expected to continue playing perfectly.”

You want to think about finishing the game strong and not worry about being perfect. You want to perform functionally and efficiently instead of perfectly. You also do not want to make any judgments about your play in the start of the match.
