Advantages of Pregame Routines

February 16, 2011 By Patrick Cohn

Athletes benefit from routines to prepare mentally for practice and competition. The goal of mental preparation is to be mentally prepared to perform their best. With a routine, for example, your players will prepare and think consistently before each game.

Encourage your athletes to establish routines that help them prepare mentally for games. Pregame routines will help your athletes:

1. Feel prepared and ready to compete

2. Feel confident in their skills

3. Focus on getting the job done

4. Figure out how to cope with adversity

5. Create a game plan or strategy

Improve your team’s focus. Check out The Focused Team DVD program.
